The Foundation was created in October 2000 in the belief that Polish humanities had a special role to play in the European integration process. Humanities disciplines are the ones that build and determine national identity and at the same time disclose Poland’s original contribution to the world culture.

Among the Foundation’s most important goals are:
- carrying out, organizing and supporting research and publishing activities in the domain of humanities,
- initiating and carrying out interdisciplinary countrywide and international research programs,
- developing modern forms of humanistic education,
- organizing and supporting Polish and international scholarly conferences and seminars,
- cooperating with government institutions and legal and physical persons – in Poland and abroad – whose goals resemble those of the Foundation.

In 2002-2003 the Foundation:

• co-organized the scholarly conference "Teatr wymowy - formy i przemiany retoryki użytkowej" [“Theater of rhetoric – the forms and changes of applied rhetoric”], Supraśl, Oct. 28th-30th 2002)
• supported modern forms of educating teachers at the "Kanon tradycji, kanon kultury" [“Tradition canon, cultural canon”] course (Czudec, Jan. 1st-11th 2002)
• supported publishing initiatives in the humanities "Pamiętnik Literacki"issues, the Dawni pisarze polscy. Przewodnik biograficzny i bibliograficzny [Polish Writers of the Old Times. Biographical and bibliographical guide] compendium, vol. 3 and 4, Magdalena Rudkowska’s book Wyszedł z dworu. Przeżycie i doświadczenie historyczne w twórczości Władysława Łozińskiego [He left the manor. Historical experience in the work of Władysław Łoziński]).
